Shane Dulac has never believed she was anything extraordinary. Her parents came from humble means and worked intensely hard to get themselves to a point where they could provide the best for their daughter. Because of this, the Dulacs tend to lean a little harder on their oldest daughter than most parents would - emphasizing the importance of effort, hard work, dedication, perfection, and fitting in - they tend to criticize her every action and word to the point where she now holds herself up to some pretty high standards.

With her family categorized as "new money" and the breeding of her parents questionable at best, it often seems like the Dulac family is putting on a front for the rest of the glamorous Upper East Side. While her parents and baby sister often take it for granted, Shane likes to use it as a constant reminder for herself that someone worked and clawed their way up so they could live like this and should they want to continue living their cushy life style she too has to keep clawing if only to stay on top. While she's never been denied a single thing in her life, she reminds herself often of where her parents came from and where she could easily end up if she doesn't keep her act in order. Because of the way her parents sometimes sometimes seem oblivious to their own behavior, Shane takes it upon herself to maintain a bit of decorum and maturity. She attempts to be a role model for her younger sister but also seems to have forgotten exactly what it means to be a teenager.

She is a self-deprecating perfectionist and typically pretty quiet around most, with the exception of her boyfriend ([info]tobe) and a few close friends. In public she maintains a demeanor that's cheerful and refuses to say a single word against the people around her (which often results in her biting her tongue when she disapproves of anyone or anything in particular). She puts her schoolwork and extracurricular activities above all else, her social interactions sometimes fall to the wayside. It tends to put stress on her friendships and her relationship with her boyfriend. However, telling her to take it easy is a bit like beating up a brick wall.

Now in her junior year at Easton, the pressure is on with the stress of the SATs and decisions to be made about college, but her life seems to be in some semblance of order. She's convinced nearly everyone that her life is perfect and fully functional, she's gotten so good at it that most days she even believes it.
